About Us

Douglas Fulmer & Associates Inc. is a public affairs, corporate and political communications and research consulting firm located in Nashville, Tennessee.
DF&A has worked with more than 150 clients in more than 28 states since 1993. Political clients have included candidates for U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, Governor and many other offices.

Douglas Fulmer

Douglas Fulmer has more than three decades of experience in politics, association work and journalism.

His political involvement began at the age of 13, when he addressed envelopes and rang doorbells during the 1972 presidential election. Over the next few years Fulmer volunteered in campaigns at all levels; from Governor and U.S. Senator to city council in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Mount Union College in 1981 with a degree in Political Science/Mass Communications and obtained a Master's Degree in Political Science from the distinguished Maxwell School of Syracuse University in 1982.

After graduate school, Fulmer worked for political campaigns in a number of states before becoming the Director of State & Local Affairs for Scenic America (then the Coalition for Scenic Beauty) in 1986. He was later the Field Director for the National Space Society before becoming the first Executive Director of The Committee to Preserve Assateague Island, an organization working on coastal protection issues in the Mid-Atlantic region.

He entered the consulting arena as a Senior Associate and Washington Director for Phil Noble & Associates. When Phil left the field in 1993, he established Douglas Fulmer & Associates.

Fulmer has also earned a national reputation as a free-lance journalist, with more than 800 of his articles appearing in 31 newspapers, magazines and Web sites since 1990.

He lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Eng and his daughter Marjorie.

  

Jim Russo - Senior Political Associate

Jim Russo has managed campaigns at the federal, state and local levels, including races for U.S. Senate and Congress, as well as those for statewide office, state senate, and city council.

As a research consultant, he has worked on campaigns for governor, U.S. Senate, as well as local races.

He was formerly Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Bob Weygand, and Chief of Staff to a Rhode Island Lt. Governor. As an attorney, Russo has served as legal counsel to the R.I. House Corporations Committee and was an assistant solicitor for the city of East Providence , R.I., for which he also served as a prosecutor. Previously he worked for both the Supreme and Superior Courts of the State of Rhode Island. Russo has wroked with DF&A since 2002.


   

Vasyl Markus Jr - Senior Political Associate

Vasyl Markus has more than ten years experience in political research and policy analysis. He has been the research director for Fisher for Governor (OH), Burns for Governor (IL), and Durbin for US Senate (IL). In addition, Markus has served as a consultant to numerous political campaigns ranging from village trustee to US Congress.

He is an attorney who has served as assistant counsel to the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and worked as Vice President for Public Policy for Planned Parenthood/Chicago. Markus has worked with DF&A since 2002.
